The Golden Fleece

A new world. The teller of ancient tales has found his way to the world of social networking and much like Jason beholding the Golden Fleece for the first time, feels bedazzled but hopeful. Thusly I begin this new blog about storytelling in general and Odds Bodkin's life doing it in particular.

Last week I spent five extraordinary days at the Washington Montessori School in Washington, CT.

There, working with 72 or so 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, great teachers and a music teacher of the first order (I'll omit names because I haven't discussed mentioning theirs), we went from a telling of "The Little Shepherd" on Monday--an Italian fairy tale none of the children had heard before--to a Friday night performance, complete with actors, dynamic movers and Orff musicians.

The children learned stage craft, speaking from imagination, elocution, acting, composing, teamwork and discipline, all, I'm convinced, while having lots of fun.
